Day 1

- solid lecture/ seminar block 12 - 6.... = no val.
- 3 days off = max. val.
- Catching a second dose of fresher's flu = no val.
- Being able to get a 12 hour sleep tonight = max. val.

:)

I dont feel great this evening, having caught "fresher's flu" for the second time in 2 weeks, but decided to play 1 SNG..

Went for a full table one, obv. $5, non turbo. Came second for $13.50, which is $8 profit, so shiiipp that.. good start to the challenge!

Few hands:

Love this hand, normally I check in this spot post flop (which I would like some critical comments on) but decided to drop a tiny little bet in, for no reason other than to squeeze a bit more value out of the hand, I think if he hasnt hit the jack then he checks behind if i check, and folds if I make a bet >100 (based on his style previously). Lovely surprise when he shiiiippps.. obv. insta call.

Heads up now, and have 4-5 in BB, SB limps, I check.. flop = 9,9,J; killamonjamie min bets ( i understand that this is the move i made before with trips, but I'm a soul reader.. :D) I bet 2 BB, which is only ~7% of stack, so am not too concerned.. he folds..

Final hand, I'm in SB, I raise to ~3BB he ships, (he has done this 3 previous hands) I call, sadly board is completely blank for both of us, and his Ace takes it.

... There were a couple of hands I played poorly but I can see the issues, and will work on keeping them out of my game..

  1. hand 1, i don't understand why you bet 80 as a cbet.
i assume all your cbets arent this size, playing agasint fish they don't pay attention to your bet sizing so you don't have to worry about polarising your rnage here with that bet to your nuts hands. though agasint good players they will realise this and you will lose a lot of value.
in this hand he obv check riases and gets it in with kj, though for example anothe villian may only be planning to check call in this spot. in betting 80 instead for examble 240 to 300 your losing so much value.

hand 2 - no offence is a bit pointless. you bet into a limped pot wher ehis range is basically atc.

hand 3- you do realise you stacked off pre with kjo nearly 30bbs deep. this is not a +ev play and there will be much better oppurtunities agasint this guy, espically post flop. you should be getting to push and fold situations in sngs when you around 10bbs hu i use as a rule of thumb personally.

hope these comments have been constructive.
what volume of sngs are you thinking of putting in with your challenge?
    good luck at tables.
p.s. whats your screenname at full tilt. pm me if you don't want it public.

  2. hand 1: 80 is obv. not standard c.bet, in this spot my reasoning was: normally he will not have hit flop.. therefore if I bet 300 ish I think he folds most of time, I guess in hindsight anything up to maybe 200 will get a call with High cards... Normally i check this spot, and am hoping he hits turn, which I would bet out ~320.. so 80 was really more as opposed to checking than betting..

Your thoughts? I gather you would prefer the bet here....

2nd hand: point taking.. its still satisfying..

3rd hand: your thoughts on the first raise? (the 480) I can see the issues with shipping, as I am stacked well enough to wait for better spot.. At the time made the decision based on his previous play, which gave him wider range than would be standard, I end up ~42% against the A9, so whilst this is not terrible, I will definately think about waiting for better spots in future though...

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated, its good opportunity to develop..

I hope to play around 150 over the month, as am not multitabling, and am prob sticking to non-turbos..

  3. hand 1- i disagree when you say he hasn't hit the flop. think of all the hands that a player at these stakes (and a few higher buyins) would call with on a j 10 10 flop that you beat and can extract value hand. 10x, kq, kj, ak, aq, aj, k9, q9, 89, qqs+ all these hands are defo in his range in a raised pot. i don't really like checking this flop as well, due to we haven't got a nut hand. yes we have trips with a good kicker short handed but we can easily get outdrawn.

hand 3- the first riase is fine. though against bad opponents hu i prefer 2.5bb riase. you just have to be disciplined and fold in spots like this. when you say your 42% against a9, you realise this is a losing play in the long run as you are an underdog and is -ev play.

good luck with the 150 games, and be prepared for some high variance as that is the nature of sngs :)

  5. MMMMMMMMM

    Ok.

Hand 1: what joe said in both his posts. Betting $240-360 is soooo much more +EV. Even hands like 66 here can spewyyyy cr or cc a 200 bet. Plus, if he does have a hand like any J combo, Q9, KQ etc a bet like this induces a reship so much more of the time against a semi competent oppo.

Hand 2: Standard but why bet 2bb, betting 1.2 bb accomplishes the same goal

Hand 3: wtf. 1) no need to 3x pre, with 30bb am making it 2.5bbs most of the time if not minning as post flop sng players tend to suck.
DEFINATELY not stacking off here, as joe says about low stakes sngs "They only ship with the top of their range" tbh i probably fold A10 here... most of the time you are AT BEST flipping with KJ.

Just fold and curse your luck then wait til they flop middle pair and "have" to call you down since its hu, basically giving you a free double.

keep shipping it tho...try 2-3 tabling imo!
